Acoustic art panels with your own design

An acoustic art panel looks like a wall picture and works like a sound absorber. Behind the print is a sound-absorbing material that reduces reverberation and makes rooms calmer. This makes an acoustic art panel suitable wherever an acoustic solution shouldn't look like one: in the living room, home office, office, meeting room, practice or reception. In offices in particular, acoustic art panels combine better room acoustics with corporate design, for example with the company logo or imagery. Such pictures are often also called acoustic pictures or sound-absorbing artwork.

How an acoustic art panel works

Hard surfaces such as concrete, glass and smooth walls reflect sound. It stays in the room for a long time, voices sound echoey and speech becomes harder to understand. When the sound wave meets the porous material of an acoustic art panel, however, it penetrates it and loses energy. The panel absorbs part of the sound, the reverberation gets shorter and the room acoustics become more pleasant. How much depends mainly on the material thickness and the area of the panels. An important distinction: an acoustic art panel improves the acoustics within the room. It does not help against noise from neighbouring rooms — that requires structural sound insulation.

How your design gets onto the panel

All our acoustic art panels are printed to a high standard with your own design, whether your own photo, graphic, artwork or company logo. You choose the model and format and send an enquiry. You can include your image file directly as a link, for example via Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or SwissTransfer. You don't need a finished print file for the first contact — an idea is enough. We agree the format, quantity and design with you and send you a binding quote. Production is to order in Europe, with a delivery time of about three weeks.

Formats and image quality

Our acoustic art panels come in five standard formats: 1,200 × 600 mm (2:1), 1,067 × 600 mm (16:9), 900 × 600 mm (3:2), 900 × 900 mm and 600 × 600 mm (1:1). Any custom size is also possible, priced by area. For a sharp print, your file should have at least 3,000 pixels in width or height, ideally 150 to 300 dpi. WhatsApp images and screenshots are usually not enough. We check every file before printing.

Pix Slim, Pix Slimframe or Pix Hybrid?

  • Pix Slim is a frameless, printed acoustic panel made of 25 mm PET. Slim, light and flat on the wall.
  • Pix Slimframe is the same panel with a black felt strip running around it that subtly frames the edge.
  • Pix Hybrid combines a printed 12 mm PET front with a 38 mm Basotect core in a black wooden frame, 60 mm deep in total. Thanks to its thicker build, it also absorbs lower frequencies and is the choice when the picture needs to do a lot acoustically.

Mounting

Pix Slim is intended to be bonded to the wall permanently; we cannot promise that it can be removed without leaving residue. Pix Hybrid is fixed with screws whose heads disappear into a groove in the wooden frame. We match the adhesive, screws and scope of delivery to your wall in the quote.

How much does an acoustic art panel achieve?

A single picture noticeably improves the acoustics, but does not replace a solution covering larger areas in a big room or office. As a rule of thumb, cover 10 to 30 per cent of the free wall and ceiling area. With several acoustic art panels you can design an entire picture wall, or you can combine them with wall panels and ceiling absorbers. The Acoustic Check works out the requirement for your room in two minutes.

Frequently asked questions

What is an acoustic art panel?
A wall picture with sound-absorbing material. It looks like an art print and at the same time reduces the reverberation in the room.
How much do acoustic art panels achieve?
One picture on its own makes a room audibly calmer; large or very reverberant rooms need more area. The Acoustic Check shows how much.
How much does an acoustic art panel cost?
The price depends on the model and format and is shown for each acoustic art panel. Custom sizes are priced per square metre. You receive a binding quote for your selection.
How do I send you my design?
The easiest way is as a link in your enquiry, for example via Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or SwissTransfer. You can also describe your idea first, and we will agree the file afterwards.
What image quality do you need?
At least 3,000 pixels in width or height, ideally 150 to 300 dpi. A quick test: zoom right into the image on screen. If it looks blurred, the quality is not good enough. We check every file before printing.
Can you make acoustic art panels yourself?
With a frame, insulation material and printed fabric, you can build a simple absorber yourself, as described in the article Building sound absorbers yourself. If you want a sharply printed design with defined acoustics, a manufactured acoustic art panel gets you there faster.
How long does delivery take?
About three weeks, as each panel is made to order. Because every picture is made individually, it is excluded from the right of withdrawal.
