Ceiling panels

Ceiling panels hang freely from the ceiling: wherever there is no more room on the walls, or there shouldn't be.

The range includes Fiber Sky and Fluffo Air as suspended panels, the cube-shaped Sky Cubes and the Fluffo Web Element as a hanging curtain. They all work on both sides and therefore absorb more per square metre than a wall surface.

You'll find the right suspension kit under Mounting & accessories.

Ceiling absorbers: room acoustics from above

When the walls are full — with windows, cupboards or whiteboards — the largest free surface in the room is almost always the ceiling. Ceiling absorbers use exactly this surface. They float freely below the ceiling and absorb sound where it lingers longest between hard surfaces. The result is less reverberation, less distracting noise and better speech intelligibility, without having to change anything on the walls.

Why suspended ceiling absorbers are so effective

A wall-mounted sound absorber works with its front face. A suspended ceiling element, by contrast, is reached by the sound wave on both sides and at the edges. That is why it absorbs more sound per square metre than the same area directly on the wall and works particularly efficiently. In rooms with high ceilings, open-plan offices, meeting rooms, classrooms or daycare group rooms, the effect is clearly audible.

Ceiling absorbers, ceiling rafts, acoustic baffles: what is what?

The terms are often used interchangeably. A ceiling raft is a flat, suspended acoustic panel that floats horizontally below the ceiling. Ceiling absorber is the umbrella term for all acoustic elements on the ceiling, including cubes, curtains or free-form elements. They all improve the room acoustics on the same principle.

Which ceiling absorber suits your room?

  • Fiber Sky is the large acoustic ceiling raft from the Fiber Line (1,500 × 1,000 mm, 40 mm thick, in black, anthracite, silver grey or white) in the highest absorption class, A. The right choice when a lot of area needs treating with just a few elements.
  • Fluffo Air is the design-led ceiling element made of flocked glass wool, available in several shapes and more than 20 colours and suspended on steel cables.
  • Sky Cubes are three-dimensional acoustic cubes with a Basotect core and an interchangeable fabric cover. They float as an eye-catcher in the room and absorb on all sides.
  • Fluffo Web builds an acoustic curtain from individual elements that hangs from a ceiling track and divides zones at the same time.

Ceiling mounting: suspend rather than bond

The ceiling elements are suspended on steel cables or from a ceiling track and are not fixed directly to the ceiling. You'll find the right suspension kit under Mounting & accessories. The gap to the ceiling is not a disadvantage but part of the effect: the air cushion behind improves absorption, especially at lower frequencies. We are happy to clarify in advance whether your ceiling structure can take the load and which fixing is suitable.

How many ceiling absorbers do you need?

As a rule of thumb, cover 10 to 30 per cent of the free wall and ceiling area. Exactly how much your room needs depends on its size, use and existing surfaces. The Acoustic Check works out the requirement in two minutes. For offices, schools and daycare centres, we plan the area under DIN 18041 and send you a quote.

Frequently asked questions

What does a ceiling absorber do?
It shortens the reverberation in the room. Conversations become easier to understand, the noise level drops and the room feels calmer. Because suspended elements work on both sides, you can achieve a lot with less area on the ceiling.
What is the difference between a ceiling absorber and a wall absorber?
Both absorb sound. The ceiling absorber uses the mostly unused ceiling and, when suspended, works on both sides; the wall absorber sits directly on the wall and is suitable when wall space is free or you want a design feature. In many rooms, the combination is most effective.
Can I install ceiling absorbers myself?
The elements are suspended on steel cables or from a track; with a drill and the right wall plugs for your ceiling, this is doable. For suspended ceilings, concrete with cables running through it or large areas, we advise you in advance.
Do ceiling absorbers help against noise from the flat above?
No. Ceiling absorbers improve the acoustics within the room. Only structural sound insulation — real soundproofing — helps against impact sound or noise from other rooms. We explain the difference in the article Sound absorption vs. sound insulation.
How long does delivery take?
The ceiling elements are made to order, usually in four to five weeks. The exact delivery time is shown for each product.
