Acoustic partitions & room dividers

Room Divider: free-standing acoustic partitions that divide a space and absorb sound at the same time. A partition screen creates a quiet retreat in an open-plan office without any building work. It stands on its own, can be moved and works on both sides. Slim L is the slim version made of PET, Canva Plus the premium version with an aluminium frame and an interchangeable, printable fabric cover.

Acoustic partitions for the office

An acoustic partition does three jobs at once: it divides the room, provides visual privacy and absorbs sound. Unlike a fixed office partition, it stands freely in the room, needs no building work and can be moved as needed. That makes it the quickest solution when an open-plan office is too loud, a team needs its own zone, or meeting areas, reception and workstations need to be separated. Our Room Dividers are room divider and acoustic screen in one, made to a high standard in Europe.

Less noise, more privacy: what an acoustic partition achieves

In an open-plan office, it is less the general noise level that disturbs people than intelligible speech from the next desk. It is hard to tune out and costs concentration. This is where an acoustic partition comes in: its sound-absorbing polyester felt surface absorbs part of the sound on both sides instead of reflecting it, and it interrupts the direct path of the voice to the person opposite. Speech intelligibility at the neighbouring desk drops, distracting conversations and phone calls fade into the background, and the reverberation in the room gets shorter. Because the partition also blocks the line of sight, visual distraction decreases too. The result is more privacy, a calmer sound environment and a workspace for focused work, without the office losing its open character.

Acoustic partition or fixed office partition?

Anyone looking for an office partition will find two solutions. Fixed partitions made of glass or drywall reach up to the ceiling and separate rooms structurally, with planning, tradespeople and usually a permit. Free-standing acoustic screens stand on feet, are ready to use straight away and move with the team when it changes.

An important point to set expectations: a free-standing acoustic partition is a noise barrier in terms of room acoustics, not sound insulation. It provides office noise control against reverberation and direct sound, but does not reach the ceiling and therefore does not seal off an area acoustically. Confidential conversations need a closed room. To minimise noise in an open-plan office and bring more calm to the workstations, however, an acoustic partition is exactly right.

Room Divider Slim L or Canva Plus?

  • Room Divider Slim L is the slim acoustic screen made of 25 mm thick PET (3,000 g/m²), 2,000 × 800 mm, in white, silver grey, anthracite or black. The feet in the same colour and material are included. Reaction to fire B-s1,d0 under EN 13501-1. The choice for many workstations and for rooms where proof of fire safety is required.
  • Room Divider Canva Plus is the premium partition with an aluminium frame anodised in silver or black, also 2,000 × 800 mm. The core of two layers of 20 mm PET and an MDF centre panel is covered on both sides with an interchangeable fabric cover: Textile Classic, Textile Prime or optionally Textile Print with your own design, such as your company logo or imagery. With absorption class A, Canva Plus absorbs the most sound of the two models. We add the metal feet to your quote.

The absorption class under DIN EN ISO 11654 indicates how effectively a material absorbs sound, from A (very high) to E (low). The values for each model are listed in its technical data.

Where acoustic partitions make the biggest difference

A partition works best close to the source of the noise: between two rows of desks, along walkways that pass through work areas, around meeting islands or at reception. In large office landscapes, several screens divide the space into quiet zones. Room Dividers can be combined into longer walls or angles; we include connectors for 45° and 90° angles in your quote. This creates niches for focused work or quiet phone spots without any building work.

Mobile acoustic partition, no installation

The Room Dividers stand freely and stably on their feet in the room; no wall or floor fixing is needed. When the office changes, you simply move them. They do not have castors. This also makes them suitable for meeting rooms, reception areas, practices and larger home offices — anywhere a room needs to be divided calmly and flexibly.

Room acoustics throughout the office

An acoustic partition is an important building block, but in a large, reverberant room it does not replace a solution that covers larger areas. The combination is most effective: partitions between the zones, desk dividers right at the desk, plus wall absorbers and ceiling absorbers. Our page Sound absorbers for offices shows how they work together. The Acoustic Check works out how much absorber area your room needs.

Quote, delivery and invoice

All Room Dividers are made to order in Europe: Slim L in about four weeks, Canva Plus in about five weeks. You send an enquiry with the model, colour and quantity and receive a binding quote; delivery is by freight forwarder, free of charge within Germany. For teams and entire floors, we plan partitions, desk dividers, wall and ceiling elements together, with a requirement calculation under DIN 18041 on request (Request a quote). Businesses can pay by invoice via a personal quote. Because every partition is made individually, it is excluded from the right of withdrawal.

Frequently asked questions

What does an acoustic partition do in the office?
It absorbs sound on both sides, interrupts the direct path of the voice to the neighbouring desk and provides visual privacy. Conversations are less disruptive and the office becomes calmer, without any building work.
How well does an acoustic partition reduce noise?
Noticeably for conversations and phone calls nearby and for the reverberation in the room. But it does not insulate like a wall up to the ceiling: someone talking loudly at the other end of the room will still be heard. The combination with wall and ceiling absorbers is most effective.
Does a partition screen replace a fixed office partition?
Often yes, for calmer work in an open-plan office; not for confidential conversations. Those need a closed room.
How big are the Room Dividers?
Both models are 2,000 mm high and 800 mm wide. For longer walls, place several side by side.
Do I need to install the partition?
No. The Room Dividers stand freely on feet, with no drilling. The feet are included with the Slim L; for the Canva Plus we add them to your quote.
Can I connect several partitions?
Yes. With connectors for 45° or 90° angles, you can build straight walls, angles and niches. We include the connectors in your quote.
Are the partitions flame-retardant?
The Room Divider Slim L is classified B-s1,d0 under EN 13501-1. For the Canva Plus, we state the values in your quote; certificates for projects are available on request. Find out more on the Acoustic panels and fire safety page.
How much does an acoustic partition cost?
The Room Divider Slim L starts at €359.90, the Canva Plus at €779.95. For several partitions, you receive a quote with volume pricing.
